duds is a an independent collection of 3,333 pixel characters, all drawn by me, by hand. It’s not about big achievements or perfect ideals. It’s about us, just as we are: sometimes balding, sometimes wrinkled, sometimes with something that feels a little off. I called them “duds” because it’s like “dudes,” but missing the “e.” That missing letter? It’s a reminder that none of us are flawless. And that’s okay.
Each dud is a realistic character in what I call “pixel realism.” I created these all on my own — just me wanting to make something honest. And some AI's. Something for the everyday people who don’t need shiny perfection. Yeah, there’s gray hair, glasses, or maybe something you’d call “wrong.” But isn’t that what life is?
This project is my invite. To look, to maybe see yourself—or someone you could be. ApeChain is where these duds live, but I hope they’ll find a home with people who value realness. This isn’t about being “more than just a collection.” It’s about making you pause and go, “Hey, that’s me.” Maybe that’s the magic of duds.
