Forgotten Runiverse ETH Merge Giveaway
Forgotten Runiverse is our upcoming Web3 MMORPG and will make use of the Ethereum network for ERC721 and ERC20 tokens. The Ethereum network is scheduled to receive one of its largest updates to date, The Merge, which will transition the chain away from Proof of Work and into Proof of Stake, and as such we're happy to honor such a monumental event to raise awareness! To celebrate, we're giving away Forgotten Runes Wizard's Cult swag, some ETH, and our gratitude for everyone in this amazing community!
How We're Celebrating
We're super excited about what the merge means for the Ethereum network and for the community (plus our game!) so we've got some goodies to give away as a thank you to everyone. Ten (10) lucky winners who complete this allow list will win! Everyone else will snag themselves a spot on the Allow List for our upcoming Land Sale. Here's what each winner will get:
- 0.1 ETH - Nope, it's not a huge amount - we just want to celebrate and give you a little boost on your way to your next mint or trade!
- Forgotten Runes Swag Bag - Snag yourself a hoodie, t-shirt, and comic book issue #0!
No purchase necessary to win. Winners will be chosen via random drawing at the conclusion of the contest period. We reserve the right to disqualify suspicious entries (e.g. Spam accounts). ETH will be transferred to the winning wallets no later than September 30 at 11:59pm PST after account confirmation. To claim the Forgotten Runes Swag Bag winner must provide a valid email address and respond within three (3) days of being contacted with a valid mailing address. Participate void where prohibited. The Merge will happen on a specific block for the network, not necessarily a scheduled time. But most likely it's looking like September 15 is the date! You can keep an eye on it here:

You Don't Need to Do Anything.
As a normal user, the Merge should be, well, magic! You don't need to take any action and you shouldn't notice any changes to your wallet(s).

Watch Out for Scams.
At an exciting time like this unfortunately the bad guys are also trying to take advantage of excitement and uncertainty. Be extra careful about validating your wallet with unknown websites. If anyone contacts you about an 'opportunity' or with a link you should probably ignore it. Among the confusion, scammers may lie about 'exploits' they've found and want to share. Always be skeptical and keep your guard up!

Moving to Proof of Stake.
The major change from the Merge is with how miners validate transactions with the key benefit being a reduction in the carbon footprint required to add transactions to the ledger. Currently Ethereum validates using Proof of Work, which means validators use powerful hardware to mine for rewards while securing the network. It's incredibly energy intensive and makes scaling the network difficult. With Proof of Stake, validators are instead required to lock up at least 32 ETH for a period of at least 6 months to secure the network for rewards instead. Bad actors who attempt to attack the network in any way will get penalties against their locked up ETH, securing the network with economic incentives.

The Merge reduces the Energy Required for Transactions, not the Gas Cost or Efficiency.
Generally, you won't see much of a change to your transaction costs after the Merge and it's also not designed to increase network capacity significantly. Though there are future updates aiming to help lower transaction fees that the Merge will lay the ground level for such as
Proto-Danksharding
, and L2 rollups such as
Arbitrum
and
Optimism
working on top of Ethereum for faster and cheaper transactions.

What to know about Forgotten Runiverse
The Runiverse is vast, and the final game will allow a variety of experiences to create value for the community beyond the ownership and use of land. As an MMORPG built around the lore of the Forgotten Runes Wizard's Cult, you'll be able to adventure, socialize, battle, craft, and Mint your creations to the blockchain.
Adventure. Take on whatever role you choose in this magical world and equip Memory Crystals to specialize and upgrade your character.
Fight. Group Battle with friends and heal, fireball, and slash your way through intense PvE and PvP encounters for epic loot.
Level Up. Advance through 50 levels, unlocking powerful abilities.
Vibe out. Relax after a hard-won battle by talking with your friends in a guildhall. Host events like a mini game night or a lore reading and sell tickets. Collect art and build a gallery open to all.
Hunt. Discover hidden secrets and quests and hunt a wide array of monsters and creatures for rare treasures.
Gather. Collect rare region-specific resources in the furthest reaches of the Runiverse.
Craft. Craft and forge spells, weapons, armor, houses, decorations, paintings, music, and more, each with unique qualities determined by both materials and your mastery of crafting. Sell your creations in-game and on secondary markets. Find recipes and unlock new craftables.
Harvest. Each plot has a unique combination of resources and owners can stake land to harvest them.
